IKEA presented a report this year that makes the case for a more eco-conscious attitude. The text of the document entitled “Concept Kitchens of 2025” says that over 60% of the world's population will move to cities within the next 10 years. This trend, like the problems with the “productivity” of global agriculture signalled above, will require a change in the way we think about food and the raw materials used in its production and processing.
According to IKEA experts, a typical 2025 kitchen will include a clear space for storing food at low temperatures: a far more “graphic” way of controlling what you have at your disposal at any given time to avoid buying unnecessary products and throwing them away later. The report also suggests several ways to grow vegetables and herbs at home: for the time being, these are mainly solutions based on sowing seeds into the soil, but we can only hope that hydroponics will soon become very popular.
